Catching Up

New Year's Resolution:
13. Start a pre-school curriculum with Riley.
We decided that we aren't going to send Riley to pre-school. We work with him a lot at home and he gets the interaction with other kids at daycare regularly. We just feel, for our family, it would be an unneeded expense and hassle. So I wanted to find something we could do at home so he'd still be prepared for Kindergarten. I found a great starter curriculum at www.letteroftheweek.com. We've been going through bits and pieces, just trying to introduce him to everything without making it seem like "work".

14. Read More.
This one seems to make my resolution list every year. I've re-visited the library and currently have three books going: "If You Want to Walk on Water, You Have To Get Out of the Boat, "It's All Too Much" and "Eclipse".

15. Wear Jewelry
The only jewelry I've ever really worn are my wedding rings. I'm wanting to build up my jewelry collection - starting with my new favorite necklace my sis-in-law Jen got me for Christmas! Looking forward to my friend Val's Lia Sophia party later this month...saving my pennies!

16. Don't Leave the House Without Makeup.
This one has been a tough one because I now feel comfortable with a bare face (Thanks to my awesome Mary Kay skin care!) and I'm always running out the door - and regularly doing my makeup in the parking lot before going to work. But I've found you feel better - and people treat you differently - when you have your 'face' on.

17. Watch Movies.
We have a great collection of movies - things I want to see, but never make the time. I finally saw Talledega Nights. Funny stuff!

18. Less 'screen' time.
This kind of contradicts #17, but not really. I"ve really been trying to make an effort to stay off of the computer while the kids are up. Which is clearly getting in the way of my blogging. :-) I'm also trying to only watch shows I really enjoy - so I've been using the DVR a lot. Lots of Daily Show, The Office, Clean House and JK+8.

19. Be in bed before ten.
HA! Hasn't happened yet.

20. Keep My Sink Clean and Shiny.
Another hard one. I am a firm believer in Flylady and her routines. I just can't seem to make mine stick. This is the year my morning and evening routines become routine!

21. Keep Up With Laundry.
See above resolution. Trying to conquer Mt. Washmore.

22. Change Coffee Habits.
I drink coffee regularly. I've tried giving it up, I just really don't want to! So in an effort to make it a little healthier, I've swapped my full fat/sugar Toffee Nut Coffeemate for sugar free Vanilla Caramel. So far so good. I refuse to use Splenda instead of sugar - makes my coffee taste nasty! I also mix it up with a Cafe Au Lait every now and then (using my fancy schmancy lingo from my Starbucks Barista days! It's just half coffee and half skim milk)

23. Be a Team Leader for Mary Kay.
I never would have imagined that I would be a Mary Kay consultant. I didn't know much about makeup, in fact I'm still learning. But I love this company. I keep waiting for the other shoe to fall, for something to happen and pull the wool out from over my eyes - and it just doesn't happen. I love being around women who truly want me to succeed, give my family choices in our life, and will help get me there. This will be my career. It's so much more than lipstick. I"m 1/5 of the way to this goal.

24. Set Goals w/ "Road Maps".
I tend to just wander aimlessly wondering why I don't achieve the things I want. Mary Kay has really helped me focus and realize people don't succeed by accident. They work hard and plan their path.

25. Get Hair Done Professionally.
After too many botched do-it-myself haircuts, I'm breaking down and realizing that I need to get it done by a pro. I'm worth it. Luckily I have a friend who is great with hair...and she made me look awesome as a red head!

26. Give More.
I donate to the American Cancer Society and Reading is Fundamental through my paycheck at work. But I still feel like I need to do more. I'm hoping to pledge this year to our local NPR station, WVPE and find other causes or organizations I feel compelled to give to.

27. Listen to All David Sedaris' Audio Books.
I heard him first on This American Life. Reading his books are okay, but nothing beats hearing him read them aloud. It literally makes me LOL. Who knew I would feel so connected to a gay man from North Carolina whom now lives in Paris? Here he is on Letterman - not his funniest work, but it was the cleanest I could find! Keeping the blog family friendly!

Life at the Hive

I've been really busy lately. The social life of the Mighty B is a lot like that of Paris Hilton's lately - well, except for the drunken club hopping and I make sure I wear undies at all times.

I have all 31 resolutions written down and I will catch up before Feb.!

But now I have to go...Lindsay Lohan is calling AGAIN! Take a hint!

New Year's Resolution #12

I will not buy anymore scrapbooking stuff.

I haven't slowed down on taking pictures, but can't tell you the last time I actually scrapbooked a page. Therefore I have a whole organizational unit full of stuff that probably will not get used. I'm not sure what to do with all of it - especially the heavier stuff like my old school sizzix.

If anyone has any ideas on what I can do with this stuff (stickers, rub-ons, paper, stamps, ink, etc.) leave me a comment!

New Year's Resolution #11

I'm going to complain more.

After reading about the book, "A Complaint Free World", I decided that I would stop complaining. I thought this would make me a more positive person and actually work on problems rather than just complain. Then I had a meeting with my manager at work that gave me a lightbulb moment - I wasn't more positive. I had just stopped caring. Instead of working to solve problems, I just assumed that no one cared, so why should I? It really ticked me off that I let myself become so complacent with things because it was like I was writing "victim" across my forehead.

Oh, why complain? It doesn't matter what I think anyway...it won't matter,
everyone does whatever they want anyway...I'll just be the bigger person and go
along with it...blah blah blah

No more!

New Year's Resolution #8

I will re-read the entire "Twilight" series. I have never been obsessed with a series of books like I am this series.

Here's a shout out to my own little La Push Pack - especially Robin...Team Jacob forever!

Problems in the Workshop Santa?

Here's Brenna, clearly not impressed with the mall Santa. Jeff pointed something out to me that I hadn't noticed...do you see it?
Here let me help.

Santa is missing a finger! CREEPY!

But isn't my little Santa baby so cute?!?!

New Year's Resolution - I will not get frustrated with my computer.

I've been trying to post resolutions for several days now (I'm not slacking Haley - I promise!) but my posts keep disappearing, not being saved etc. The below post was after I tried FOUR times to post a picture of Brenna and Santa Claus and each time it disappeared. I was a little frustrated - and of course that post sticks!

I'm at work now - we're getting hit by a major snow storm. So as long as I make it home okay, I'm planning on writing up several posts and then I'll just have to post them each day.

I know I know, the addiction to the Mighty B is strong. Sorry for leaving ya'll hanging. :-)

New Year's Resolution #7

I'm going to be punctual.

I'm getting better - but I'm still normally late. I hate that. It makes others feel like I don't value their time and makes me look bad at work. I'm 7 days into the new year and so far so good...

New Year's Resolution #6

I will not watch the news. Much.

This one will be a challenge because I am a news junkie. In the mornings, I watch WNDU (Joel Schipper is my favorite!) and The Today Show. On my way to work I listen to Morning Edition on NPR. During work I check CNN.com. During breaks I read USA Today and the local news from my iPhone. On my way home I listen to more NPR.

I love knowing what's going on. Feeling like I have an informed view to base my opinions on. But let's face it - The news is DEPRESSING! And drowning myself in it all day just makes it easier to be sucked into that negativity. So I'm going on a news diet.

I will, however, watch Cars three times today. It seems Riley has become fond of an old favorite. Oh, Lightening - How we've missed you.

New Year's Resolution #5

At least one random act of kindness a day.

I came across the most awesome website a few weeks ago and was inspired. I want to start posting about this movement every Monday - maybe once my resolutions run out. :-) This world would be a much better place if everyone was a little nicer.

'Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.'

New Year's Resolution #4

I will keep my car clean.

Since the only passengers I ever really have in my car are strapped in the backseat, my passenger seat is used as my dumping ground. Then when someone does need to ride with me - it literally takes a tote bag or basket to get everything out. And I have no idea what I need to carry around so badly! So I will make a effort to keep it clean - and do a thorough cleaning every Friday while filling up with gas.

New Year's Resolution #3

I will not buy generic diapers.

When Brenna was little, I was thrilled with Target diapers. They were cheap and worked great. Now that she's bigger - and her 'loads' are bigger - I'm finding that you get what you pay for. There's a big difference in the fit and I'm willing to spend the few extra bucks to save myself from scrubbing poo out of yet another onsie.

(If you haven't noticed yet, since I failed miserably at the December Daily, I'm trying for a January Daily. One resolution - some big, some tiny - per day that I'd like to achieve in 2009!)

New Year's Resolution #2

I will stop worrying so much. Worrying is like rocking in a rocking chair - it gives you something to do, but you don't get anywhere.

New Year's Resolution #1

I will learn to do this dance.

I am the Mighty B Fierce.
