Hey! It's Okay Tuesday!

It's Okay to...

One of my favorite elephants - Gerald, from Mo Willem's Elephant and Piggie books.

  • Start fresh...new name, new design....same ol' Mighty B. :)
  • Save your place in a fitness magazine with an article about chicken wings you've torn from a food magazine.

  • Think, "I really should find a way to store my books. Maybe I can look it up on Pinterest." And then realize there are these magical things called BOOKSHELVES that have been around since the dawn of time. (It looks like I'm not the only one who shuns regular, old bookshelves! Thanks Buzzfeed!)
  • Be cynical when it comes to "fitness" pictures. If you put a dowdy "Before" pic right next to a professional, obviously posed "After" pic, I'm not going to believe whatever miracle drug you're promoting. Show me YOU in the same lighting, same clothes, same pose and let me see real results. Anyone can look like a supermodel with enough primping.

Hey! It's Okay Tuesday!

It's Okay to...

Just say, "NO!" source

  • Not worry about goody bags for Riley's birthday party. I think I speak for all parents when I say, "Enough with the tiny, plastic crap already!" It's my son's birthday...why should everyone else get a gift?
  • (On that same note) be annoyed when people bring gifts for my other kids when they attend birthday parties. 99% of the time it's the grandparents, and I know that's just what they do - spoil the grandkids! But I think it takes from the birthday child's day being special.
  • really enjoy Barbie movies. So far Princess Charm School is my favorite, but A Pony Tale is pretty good too. (I'm totally serious! Don't judge!)
  • Be hoping for a snow day tomorrow. It's a far-fetched hope, but right now the pain of having my kids home all day sounds better than having to put on actual pants in the morning. I just can't even.

Hey! It's Okay Tuesday!

It's Okay to...

  • be thankful Christmas is over. But ready to plan for next year.
  • to have taken all of the Christmas decorations down. We still have our main tree up, I promised the kids we would wait until New Year's Eve to take it down. But I'm ready to get the house back in order!

  • be glad the kids are still on Christmas break. But that may be because they are all still asleep. My answer may change later this afternoon.
  • have some serious goals for 2015. What do you have planned for the next year?

Hey! It's Okay Tuesday!

It's Okay to...

Pretty sure this is how I will look when I finally finish my degree...

  • thinking cleaning is dangerous. I mopped our dining room and kitchen yesterday. It was so slick that I nearly wiped out when I went walking through later. Sticky floors save lives!
  • leave my daughter in her bed, awake, for nearly an hour. Grace is almost four. We have shown her time and time again how to get out of her bed by herself. She CAN do it. But its much easier to look at mom and say sweetly, "Get down please!". Sorry sweetheart. From now on, if you want out of bed, you gotta do it yourself. (Her door was open and I could see her the entire time. She played with her toys until she finally decided she'd had enough and slid out of her bed.)
  • have learned a lot from my Children's Literature class, but be so thankful it's over! I haven't worked this hard on something in a very long time. Learn from me kids - stay in school! It's harder when you're old!!
  • have never seen someone with a sunburned chin until my fair-skinned, red head came in from 3 hours in the pool this afternoon. Thankfully she didn't burn anywhere else except on her face! But it's so odd to see her chin all red!

Hey! It's Okay Tuesday!

It's Okay to...

- Admit that you need help.
- Know that when you face your issues, strength can take the place of shame.
- Let the cat out of the bag....:)

In December, I decided to do something serious about my health and in February I started the process of having lap-band surgery. It isn't scheduled yet, but if all goes as planned I should have surgery by the end of August.

I hadn't told anyone for the longest time because I was ashamed. I know people will talk, I know people will think it's the easy way out, I know people will judge. But I realized I can't control what others may say. But I can share my story.

It really isn't anyone else's business - it's my body. But I don't want to lose weight and have people believe I finally got my shizz together and conquered this diet/exercise thing on my own. It felt very dishonest.

So I'd like to put it out there. I'm horrible at blogging, but hopefully I can document this huge life change well!

Hey! It's Okay Tuesday!

It's Okay to...

Oh? Is it humid? I couldn't tell!
  • have an afro. I let my hair get pretty long, but it took SO LONG to dry. So for the summer I got it chopped off. It's the same style I've loved in the past, but the combination of new styling products and extremely humid weather makes my curls shrink up to 'fro-levels. It's not so pretty.
  • feel like the poster child for both why you should finish college when you are young and why you should wait. School is SO MUCH easier when you don't have other major responsibilities - like kids that expect you to feed them regularly. But I would have never imagined myself being passionate about Special Education even just five years ago. Just proof that sometimes "regrets" are just God telling you there is something better around the corner.
  • be in the middle of three different books and have no desire to finish any of them. I'm doing a lot of reading for a Children's Literature class, so I'm blaming that.
  • LOVE my Children's Literature class. It takes a lot of work! But kid's books are ah-ma-zing. I've at least tripled my Amazon Wish List.
  • be super tired. I've been staying up late working on school and Grace seems to think 5 AM is a perfect time to start the day. It's not. It's a horrible time to start the day. But since she rules the roost around here...
Good night ya'll!

Hey! It's Okay Tuesday!

It's Okay to...

  • Not understand what Tumblr is.
  • Love The Amazing World of Gumball.
  • Simultaneously adore your kids and feel like if they say, "Mom!" one more time you're sending them to live with the gypsies.
  • To have found this draft that was written on 10/9/2012 and find that it's still as true today as it was then. :)

Hey! It's Okay Tuesday!

It's Okay To...

  • Step on the scales after working out and kind of expect to have dropped about 30 lbs. Hasn't happened yet.
  • Put your Christmas tree up BEFORE Thanksgiving.
  • Not be a fan of Thanksgiving. The idea of setting aside a day just to stuff yourself with food irritates me. I think the whole idea of gratitude is totally lost. And Thanksgiving food is gross.
  • Show your son that when you cover up the "e-r" in the word "butter" it spells "butt". And then act shocked when your son points it out to your husband.

Hey! It's Okay Tuesday!

It's Okay to...

  • think eating cottage cheese with fruit is disgusting. Give me pepper and fresh tomato with mine please!
  • hear someone thin complain they are fat and wonder what they must think of me. (On second thought, this is NOT okay!)
  • not believe that tomorrow is August. Where has this summer gone?
  • be excited for my kids to start school, but sad at the same time. I'll miss having Riley and Brenna around all day!
  • wish my MUCH older husband a Happy 32nd birthday tomorrow!

Hey! It's Okay Tuesday!

It's Okay to...

Mmmmm....come to momma!

  • Drool over the back-to-school ads like some women drool over Magic Mike.
  • Obsessively check amazon.com to see if they have any new Kindle books for free.
  •  Have no desire to ever do a craft that involves crayons and a hair dryer. {kudos to those of you who have - just seems like a big mess to me.}
  • On that same note, really not want 1,000 mason jar projects in my house. They'd go unfinished and it would just be one big redneck haven with all the mason jars laying around.
  • Buy generic for everything except toilet paper. I will not skimp when it comes to TP.

Freshly Sharpened Pencils

  • Be ridiculously excited that I got a $10 off gift card in the mail from Staples. I love office supplies!
  • Nearly flip my lid when I saw I had also gotten an email from Staples with 50% coupons. 50% off items + $10 off gift card = an extremely happy B.  ""Don't you love Indiana in the spring? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address. On the other hand, this not knowing has its charms" (Adapted quote from one of my favorite movies! Name that movie for 1,000 brownie points!)
  • Feed your family pancakes with sprinkles and frosting for National Pancake Day.
  • Wish the "Know-It-All Riley" stage had passed at age six, but unfortunately it's still going strong. I'm thinking it will only last another 6 months or so...
  • Think it's very neat that my friend is being induced tomorrow - a Leap Year baby!

Resolutions I Should Have Made

Dear Me,

I know you don't really make resolutions. But maybe we should consider making just one? Who cares that it's almost March, this is important to your mental health. See, I've noticed that you tend to do something that only seems to make you mad and ruin your afternoon. You insist on reading comments that people post online. Particularly the ones of a political nature. Or even worse, you read articles you know are going to tick you off. I mean, did you think you would benefit from going to a website called "Mr. Conservative" and reading how Michelle Obama is ruining our lives by encouraging our incredibly obese country to not eat King Sized candy bars?

You can't help it that people are stupid don't agree with you. The great thing about this country is that they are able to spew their ignorance express their opinion without fear of being arrested! Your snarky comments, no matter how intelligent and witty, don't help and certainly don't change anyone's opinion. You just offend more people, cause a bigger rift, and nothing good ever comes from it.

"When leftist pundits speak of the scourge of Republicans and how stupid they are, they are talking about my family and a lot of people I know, and like. When the blow holes on the right talk noxious tripe about hunting liberals and the such, they’re talking about me, my family and a lot of people I know, and like."  - Collin Hinds

So how about we stop reading and start doing something? Try to remember that showing people you care is more important that proving that you are right.

And you should probably stop writing letters to yourself.

Love,
Me

Hey! It's Okay Tuesday!

It's Okay...
  • To forget why you put your kids in timeout....or forget that they are IN timeout.
  • To sign up for and be excited about Oprah's Life Class. She's just a little successful, she may be able to teach me a thing or two!
  • To feel like everyone else my age is grown-up and I'm just playing the part. I don't feel 30.
  • To not be strong enough. I know I'm not strong enough to be everything that I'm suppose to be.

Hey! It's Okay Tuesday!

Hey! It's Okay....

To be a woman and not like Dirty Dancing or Top Gun.

To hate Jersey Shore, but enjoy Jerseylicious.

To be so thankful that Amanda Knox and the hikers imprisoned in Iran are all free. And to be a little scared of ever leaving the country because of these incidents.

To think jeggings are ridiculous.

These are NOT pants. I repeat, these are NOT pants.

Hey, It's Okay Tuesday!

{I found this over at Airing My Dirty Laundry and loved the idea. Here goes!}

It's Okay...

To wonder why there are always random socks laying around my house.

To love watching The Millionaire Matchmaker. Guilty pleasure!!

To obsess over finding the perfect planner. Digital ones don't do it for me, I need pen to paper. Most of them don't have enough space to write in or too much junk I won't need.

To prefer Dunkin' Donuts coffee over Starbucks.
