Doppleganger

Sometime last month my sister posted this meme on Facebook:

Hilarious, right? There are numerous other memes with this funny gal. But sadly the girl resembles me. Don't believe me? Check out this picture from Jeff's company picnic in 2011. I KNEW they were taking a picture. What on Earth made me make this face?

Worst. Picture-taker. Ever.

Ermahgerd indeed.

Resolutions I Should Have Made

Dear Me,

I know you don't really make resolutions. But maybe we should consider making just one? Who cares that it's almost March, this is important to your mental health. See, I've noticed that you tend to do something that only seems to make you mad and ruin your afternoon. You insist on reading comments that people post online. Particularly the ones of a political nature. Or even worse, you read articles you know are going to tick you off. I mean, did you think you would benefit from going to a website called "Mr. Conservative" and reading how Michelle Obama is ruining our lives by encouraging our incredibly obese country to not eat King Sized candy bars?

You can't help it that people are stupid don't agree with you. The great thing about this country is that they are able to spew their ignorance express their opinion without fear of being arrested! Your snarky comments, no matter how intelligent and witty, don't help and certainly don't change anyone's opinion. You just offend more people, cause a bigger rift, and nothing good ever comes from it.

"When leftist pundits speak of the scourge of Republicans and how stupid they are, they are talking about my family and a lot of people I know, and like. When the blow holes on the right talk noxious tripe about hunting liberals and the such, they’re talking about me, my family and a lot of people I know, and like."  - Collin Hinds

So how about we stop reading and start doing something? Try to remember that showing people you care is more important that proving that you are right.

And you should probably stop writing letters to yourself.

Love,
Me

Hush, Mommy's Watching Her Stories

Cartoons monopolize my television. If I want to watch MY shows I either have to a.) struggle to hear over my kid's attempts to distract me or b.) struggle to stay awake because the show is on after 8:30. My DVR has become my best friend. And even though I'm suffering from severe sleep deprivation, my late night feedings with Grace has become one of my favorite times. She's the perfect TV partner - she doesn't talk, doesn't try to change the channel, and is an expert snuggler. Here are a few of our favorite shows to watch:

1.) Hoarders
It's like a revolting car wreck that you want to look away from but you just can't. With dead cats.

2.) Mike & Molly
I really looked forward to this show when I heard about it because it has one of my favorite actresses Melissa McCarthy (Sookie from Gilmore Girls). I was afraid it would be cheesy and lame, but it's actually really funny and charming.

3.) The Middle
Funny and a nice 'real' look at family. And it's set in Indiana!

4.) Modern Family
Hilarious. I tried to pick a favorite character in this show and I just love them all!

What are some of your favorite shows? Do you also watch Hoarders and then clean your house like crazy?

Ali Edwards is doing another "Week in My Life" series and I've decided to participate with this one. I'm going to take random pictures of my daily life all week, then make a book. Just a little snapshot of what my life is right now. Here are the pictures from day one.

I am HILARIOUS!

I don't know what kind of Zen mood I was in when I wrote the previous post. But today I took a hard look at my life, re-read that post and LAUGHED! In what world did I think it was possible for a working mother of two (both under the age of 3!) to do just one thing at a time? Seriously. Of course I wish things were less hectic. I wish my house stayed clean. I wish I could go to the bathroom without little fingers reaching under the door. But I also wish for a million dollars, world peace and Jessica Alba's body - we know none of that is going to happen!

My life is crazy, cluttered, hectic and sometimes stressful. But it's also full of lots of fun and lots of love. And I wouldn't trade it for all the enlightenment in the world.

I'm off to meditate. Or crash as soon as my head hits the pillow. Whatever.

Exciting Mail and Labor Playlist

It's a normal, everyday Thursday - but when I went out to check the mail, I found this:

I was the winner of a set of handmade cards from Freckles and Fireflies! The portfolio that the cards came in was so pretty I almost didn't want to open it. The cards inside were even prettier! I can't wait to send one! Freckles and Fireflies is a stationary and gift shop run by Brittany Armstrong. She makes amazing items. Check out her shop by clicking here.

Yesterday I made my 'labor and delivery' playlist to listen to while in the hospital. I came up with some great songs, but only 14 of them! While a 45 minute labor and delivery would be an incredible blessing - I don't see it happening. So I'm looking for suggestions on some new songs. Here's what I have so far...

1.) Baby Mine - Bette Midler

2.) You are my Sunshine - Elizabeth Mitchell - a beautiful version of one of my favorite songs

3.) Stronger Woman - Jewel - I've loved this song since I heard the lyrics "From now on I'm gonna be the kind of woman I'd want my daughter to be"

4.) Free Fallin' - John Meyer - the Tom Petty song sang in John Meyer's mellow way

5.) Because of you - Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson - kind of a sad song, but easy to get lost in. I AM Reba McEntire when this comes on the radio. :-)

6.) Everything - Michael Buble

7.) So Small - Carrie Underwood

8.) Bubbly - Colbie Callait

9.) You're Gonna Miss This - Trace Adkins - maybe I'll convince myself I'll miss being in labor?

10.) My Wish - Rascal Flats

11.) In My Daughter's Eyes - Martina McBride - I could hardly listen to this song before without getting misty eyed. Now that I'm having a daughter of my own, it's taken on a whole new meaning.

12.) I'm Coming Out - Diana Ross - it makes me laugh to think that if she could choose any theme song for being born, it would be this. A Soul Train lover just like her momma!

13.) Isn't She Lovely - Stevie Wonder

14.) Fingerprints of God - Steven Curtis Chapman

So what should I add?

Here I go - Here I go - Here I go again

(...a little OK GO reference for my first blog post.) I've attempted to keep several blogs before. But could never figure out what to talk about. Then I found friends who keep blogs to keep people up to date on their kids - why hadn't I thought of that before?

Riley is so hilarious and brilliant, it's a crime for me to not share his talents with everyone. And I'm sure his sister (who is yet to be named. Yep, we're still debating...it's not like she's due in 8 days or anything. We have time.) will be just as fascinating.

That and for the occasions where I DO have something to say, I now have a forum. And really, who doesn't want to know my views on things?

So this is my first post. Dinner needs to be finished. (A modified chicken stir fry, in case you were wondering what's on the Rudd menu).
